Project Seagrass protects and restores seagrass meadows, one of the worldβs most valuable coastal ecosystems. Seagrass provides vital habitat for marine life, improves water quality, and helps capture and store large amounts of carbon π π©΅ π
Collecting seagrass seeds enables damaged or lost meadows to be replanted naturally and sustainably. As a team we collected 4 kg of seed pods for the session! These seeds will play a vital role in restoring local seagrass meadows in 2027, supporting healthy coastlines for years to come β»
It is amazing to be a part of creating the nurseries that help sea creatures survive! π¦ π
We had a chance to appreciate the importance of the initiative straight away when we found these purple pods, they are cuttlefish eggs π
The eggs become translucent as they mature and look what we saw next while wading through the seagrass meadow. Can you see the little cuttlefish inside the egg? π
